Excerpt from Red Stilettos, Dark Tales Diaries, Vol 1:

“It’s been a long time,” he said in a voice that still sent shivers up my spine. “I was in town, and decided, why not?”
I crossed my arms and eyed him suspiciously. “Humm…”
“That’s it? All you have to say is, ‘Humm?’”
“Humm is better than what I was really thinking, Marcus.”
His mouth twitched at the corners, and I hated the fact I noticed how damn sexy his lips were.
“Guinn,” he said.
“Guinevere,” I corrected. I set my expression to that of unyielding stone and ignored those sparkling straight white teeth as he smiled. His wicked ways no longer affected me. I’d broken his spell two years ago, and I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. I was Mistress Guinevere. I was in control, he wasn’t, and I would never relinquish the balance of power out of my favor again.
He tilted his head in that roguish way and eyed me. Heat radiated from my core. “So, am I to stand here in the hall or are you going to let me come in, Guinevere?”
“I hate you, Marcus, so why should I let you in?”
“Hate is a strong word for someone who claimed no feelings for me whatsoever as she stormed out of my apartment a couple of years ago.”
“What do you want? I don’t have times for your games,” I said rather tersely.
“Let me in. Then I’ll tell you.”
“You’re going to have to do better than that, Marcus. What’s wrong? Have you lost your touch? If you think that will entice me, you are so wrong.”
Marcus Warner, Master Dom, pulled out a gorgeous pair of thigh-high, red leather, spike-heeled boots from behind his back, holding them out in front of him so I could see every lovely inch of the unmistakable Italian craftsmanship on the handmade beauties.
“You won’t let me in even if I’m baring gifts?”
I eyed the boots before returning my gaze to him.
“What’s the old saying?” I asked. His perfectly shaped eyebrow lifted. “Isn’t it, beware of those baring gifts?”
He dangled the boots. Swinging them from side to side. Tempting me.
Bastard.
I’ll give Marcus his dues. Since the first day I met him, he had my number, and during the year I spent with him, I gave him too much of myself, falling back into what I believed to be the weakness I worked so hard with Mistress Payne to rid myself of.
Marcus sniffed the leather of the boots in his hand, giving me that smile again. He knew me well, maybe too well, and he knew those boots would be like kryptonite, cracking my will.
“All right. You can come in, but only for a while.”
“That’s my little, Guinn,” he said.
“I’m not your little anything, and don’t call me Guinn!” I stepped aside so he could enter, shutting the door behind him.
He strolled into my apartment as though he belonged, sat the boots down on my glass coffee table, and took a seat, rather casually, on my leather couch. He patted the space next to him.
“Well, come on. I’m not going to bite, unless you want me to,” he said, releasing his sexy sideway smirk.
I took a seat in the chair across from the couch. This was my house, and I’d sit where I wanted to.
He chuckled, shook his head, leaned back, and kicked his feet out, positioning them under my coffee table.
“Marcus, are you going to tell me why you’re here?”
“To see you.”
“I’m not buying that.”
He shrugged.
“Aren’t you going to try on the boots?”
“No,” I said.
“You know you want to,” he baited.
“Listen. I’m not sure what you are up to, and frankly I really don’t care—”
“I’m up to the business of you,” he said.
“What do you mean?”
“Maybe I let you go too soon. Maybe I regret it. Maybe I’ve decided it’s been long enough, and I want you back.”
I snorted. “I left you, remember? You didn’t let me do anything.”
There was that grin of his. The one that makes any woman consider her panties, his mouth, his tongue… Stop it, Guinevere. Don’t forget this is Marcus, the man you loath.
“Really?” His onyx-colored eyes met me, and held me there with him. Stare for stare, we were locked in a secret power play for dominance.
“We never worked well together,” I said. “You’re a dom, and I’m a dom, and neither is willing to give.”
“Baby, you’re a switch. You like to dominate, but you also like to be dominated.”
“No. I’m not,” I protested.
“You always liked it when I took the control,” he said, assuredly. “With one word, you were wet for me.”
“I like being in control. And I have no intention or interest in being submissive. Not for you, not for anybody.”
“How long are you going to keep telling yourself that lie?”
I stood up, pissed off and ready to rage. “Marcus, I don’t have to explain anything, justify my life and my choices, or put up with your shit. I think your time is up. I’d like to say it was good seeing you again, but that would be a lie.”
“You’ve always lied to yourself when it comes to me and how I make you feel.”
“You don’t make me feel anything, Marcus. Get over yourself.”
I marched to the front door. Marcus followed behind me. I reached for the knob, and was stopped by his large hand as it covered mine. He placed his mouth to my ear. His warm breath tickled across my cheek.
“Guinevere,” he said in a low, deep growl. Immediately, my sex trembled.

BOOK 2

I have lived my whole life with comments from both, relative strangers and close friends telling me I should write a book. People continually tell me I have an ability to tell a story and make even the mundane sound interesting. (I’m personally not aware of that.)
The thought of doing this, was something I never thought I would entertain, because being dyslexic, during my childhood and adolescence, I found it very difficult to get past how to spell something, never mind how coherent the sentence sounded. So writing a few paragraphs usually made me sweat.
As a child I discovered coping strategies and developed my own ways of getting by, I wasn’t stupid by any stretch of the imagination, but left school at fifteen without any academic qualifications. I wasn't diagnosed with dyslexia until I attended university at the age of thirty.
(Both of my children were diagnosed with dyslexia, one at the age of seven and one much later, although, I could see my traits present in him, and both have excelled academically in their chosen professions.
Thanks to the invention of the computer and information technology, my world changed. I learned how to communicate in written form effectively, not afraid to use language present in my oral skills that were lacking in my written work, for fear of spelling them wrongly, which gave me the confidence to write the books. Had I, had to write a book on paper, I know I would never have finished the first page.
I recently discovered the joy of writing after a challenge by a friend, which turned into three books. As I am constantly challenging others to face their demons, I decided, after some persuasion, to brave it out and share the books with others. I don’t have any expectations for them other than to tell the story.
This was a huge step for me, and took courage because there are so many fabulous clever people out there, writing amazing pieces of work that sadly, very few people ever see.
My work:  I have had the pleasure (and the drama) of working in The National Health Service and in an independent capacity for Social Services in the UK for many years. My work has been supporting many women, children, young people, and families during this time. Sometimes, this has been at some of the toughest or most vulnerable times in their lives.
During this time I have observed the communications of all parties involved both, in their relationships with others and how their decisions affect the subsequent outcomes for them and others. I have shared in the births and in the deaths of some of these people, and I never take advantage of the privilege my position brings me.
People ask what does the K.L. stand for K.L. Shandwick is a pseudonym. This isn’t to ‘hide’ behind, (I am not ashamed of what I’ve written), but to afford my clients the appropriate level of confidentiality by association. So, K L stands for KL. I am an independent author, who presently self publishes through kindle, but I hope to have a print copy of my books shortly.

Review:

Talk about sizzling! I thought my poor, old Kindle would have a meltdown. Fairfax takes the story from one hot scene to another for most of the book. If your looking for something erotic, you've come to the right place.

Deborah is an interior designer with an established small business in England. Her past relationship with a bigamist has left her disinterested in love. However, she's funneled  her passions into work and saving an old, Art Deco cinema from a wealthy foreign investor. When she meets him at a protest, she finds a few embers of love buried deep within her flare to life. Now hot flames of love and lust are taking over. Too bad for her the target is the foreign investor she's fighting.

Zoran just wants to flip the property he's invested good money into. The area would see revitalized growth, and he'd see a handsome profit. He only has one problem, Deborah. She turns out to be more than a protester. He wants her the moment he lays eyes on her. But how can he get her under his influence? Easy. Force her to work for him in his native Serbia. There he brings her interior design work to the international stage and her to his bed.

Like I said, this book sizzles. For a sizable portion of the book, the storyline just propels the reader from one sensual sex scene to another. The chemistry between Zoran and Deborah means they can't keep their hands off each other. He wants to posses her. She wants to hate him but can't. They each have a well defined internal struggle. Most of the external conflict is between the hero and the heroine. It plays out well to the end. This is clearly not a book that would be safe to read at work. I'm giving Loving That Feeling 4 stars for the sex alone!

About the Author

I spent my childhood in India, qualified as a Lawyer in England and joined a large London firm.
Romance is hardwired into my DNA so my novels include a strong romantic theme. However, I broke out of the romance bubble with one  (you’ll see which one when you visit the Books page), which is a quirky departure in style and content.
I've also authored several short stories that feature on my blog http://www.serenafairfax.com/serena_fairfax_author_blog/
Fast forward to a sabbatical from the day job when I traded in bricks and mortar for a houseboat which, for a hardened land lubber like me, turned out to be a big adventure.
Apart from writing and reading (all kinds of books), a few of my favorite things are collecting old masks, singing (in the rain) and exploring off the beaten track.
I'm a member of the Romantic Novelists Association, which is a very supportive organization. My golden retriever, Inspector Morse, who can't wait to unleash his own Facebook page, and I divide our time between London and rural Kent. (Charles Dickens said: Kent, sir. Everybody knows Kent. Apples, cherries, hops and women).

About the Author

I started my love affair with vampires as a kid by reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It was the only vampire book our little local library branch had back then. Then, I discovered mail order books and fell in love with the tortured characters in Interview with a Vampire.  In the mid 80’s, the most amazing thing happened! My family bought a VCR, and I was finally able to see movies! All the vampire flicks I could beg for flickered across the screen, making the love affair into a passionate, lifelong relationship. Today, I write fantasy and paranormal romance and never pass up a chance to pair up vampires with the less-than-usual characters. Witches and elves currently top my list. I love weaving vampires into legends and myths where none exist. It’s my private world of the erotic, weird, and wonderful, and I invite every reader to go along for the ride.
